These are the Monitor and Merrimac Buttes, near Moab, Utah. Rising hundreds of feet above their Navajo Sandstone base, they were named after two Civil War ships.
The Civil War ironclad ships are said to have changed maritime war from their Battle at Hampton Roads. Merrimac is the butte on the left and Monitor on the right. There is a striking resemblance between the buttes and the shapes of the vessels.
The buttes are made of Entrada sandstone. This is the same rock layer that forms many of the Arches in Arches National Park
