Inspiration

Any person with a desk job has probably had that one moment where they look outside into the world and think they could do more, work better and get more accomplished if they could just have a few minutes outside. Whether you crave a breath of fresh air or a long walk through the wilderness, there is nothing quite like the lure of nature. While many people yearn for some time in nature just to have a break from their everyday lives, I find that spending time in nature is a great way to get inspiration. The moments I experience in the diverse Utah landscape inspire my creativity. These junctures in a natural environment provide a natural shift in how I view time. I feel a sense of “awe” and as though time is expanding. Instead of feeling pressured or a lack of time, I feel at peace when in nature.    

My Equipment  

I'm using Nikon cameras with Sigma, Nikon and Irix lenses.  I enjoy and prefer Shooting the “Night Sky Photography” over traditional Landscape photography. My D810 has been Astro Modified by Spencer's Camera, who provides a unique modification service specifically for nightscape and astrophotography purposes. A wide angle lens works best in Nightscapes, the lens I use most is my Sigma 14-24mm art lens and 15mm Irix. I generally use the Sigma at 14 mm but like the versatility of going up to 24mm. The 15mm Irix is incredibly sharp and clear. I let the scene and desired composition decide which lens I use at the time.  I do shoot in RAW format and process my images to reflect my style.  Just as photographers using film used the darkroom and various darkroom techniques to complete their images, photographers in the digital age use the digital darkroom to complete theirs. I do not create or remove objects that were not in the original scene, but I do use Photoshop to adjust brightness, color, and contrast to my liking. 

My photography Background  

Photography came naturally with my love for nature. Hiking and camping in the mountains of Utah brought so much enjoyment that I started taking pictures of my adventures. Currently, I was shooting photography as a hobby. Then friends and family encouraged me to share my love of nature.  

Making the move to Fine Art Photography would be more of a discipline. I also fell in love with night photography and looked for the best to learn it from. So, I found Royce Bair. Royce is one of the best Astro photographers and I believe started the Nightscape trend.  

Today my stunning Low level light images have attracted millions of views on Flickr and Instagram. My images are enjoyed all over the world. With clients across the United States, Australia, Canada and France.
